CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Victor Elysan / Víðarr
Canon: Nine (Original)
Canon Point: after escaping Hotel Fen with Silje
Age: 24
Reference:
Victor was born and raised to middle class parents in New York. His mother worked as a grade school teacher and his father worked as a history professor. His parents had joked that he was always destined to live his life in books because of this, something that didn't fall too far from the truth. For reasons unknown to him at the time he's always been drawn to mythology and anthropology of the different cultures around the world, even majoring it them when he was at University. Though his true passion had always been Norse Mythology. While researching for a book he'd planned to write regarding the Norse Mythology, he'd received a call that he'd won a free trip to Hotel Fen, a remote mountain resort near Jotunheimen. Even though he hadn't remembered entering a contest, he jumped at the chance to be flown to Norway and entrench himself in the history and mythology of the country and he didn't question it. Shortly after his arrival at the hotel, he met and was trapped alongside nurse Silje Storstrand. They later discovered that they had both been tricked to the hotel by Fenris, Loki's wolf-child, in order to kill them in a ritual that would finally release the Trickster God from his chains. In their time at the hotel he learned that he was actually the reincarnation of Víðarr, one of Óðinn's sons, and that she was the reincarnation of Sigríðr a woman who the god had loved, lost, and refound when she'd become a Valkyrie. The two lovers had been slain by Loki and the other Norse gods had used their souls to bind Loki in his eternal prison.
In his first life, Víðarr was a quiet god, letting his brother Thor make the noise, especially when it came to Miðgarðr and the humans. Mostly he fought with his brother when needed, and helped the Valkyries train the Einherjar, warriors brought after their death to train for the final battle. Though most of the stories the humans wove about Thor, Víðarr had been beside his brother at every turn. The two were close enough that when Thor misplaced Mjölnir, he accompanied his brother down to Miðgarðr to search for it. Searching later became settling in at a tavern where he met Sigríðr. The two fell in love and their union lead to three children as Víðarr strived to visit her and the family of his heart whenever he could. One of the trips, Víðarr found her drown and after finding a good family to keep their children safe and raised in good lives, he bargained with his father to intervene, so Óðinn brought her into Ásgarðr as a Valkyrie, but without her mortal memories.
He watched from a slight distance for a time, battling his heart to have her close but without knowing him. Eventually their love found a way and they were fully reunited. Though Loki later killed her as part of his revenge scheme against Óðinn, and Víðarr had tried to kill him in revenge but was slain in the process. The gods, finally having had enough, bound Loki using the lovers' blood; the use of blood magic led to their souls to be forever tethered to the Nine Worlds, and Loki's children hunted them life after life, reincarnation after reincarnation, in order to reverse the binding and set their father free.
He and Silje battled the trials of Hotel Fen together, regaining some of their memories and abilities in the process. They also collected a few of the items Fenris has taken from the gods and goddesses he and his siblings have slain over the millennia. They were last seen heading towards the Bifröst to get back to Ásgarðr and warn the surviving gods about Loki's plan to set Ragnarök in motion.
Victor has already died eight times in total.
Personality:
Because Victor is, and was close with his parents, family means a great deal to him, but also the echo of his past self has a strong influence on him in regards to family. His family means the world to him, which is why in his first life he'd both seen to his children's well being after their mother died and bargained with his father for Sigríðr's life, or well afterlife. It's also why as a god he had continued to track his children's lives, reaching out to help his lineage if they needed it to continue being safe but trying not to overstep and bring his father down on him or them. He'll put himself in front of any danger for his family, because he'd rather see them alive and safe than be safe while they get hurt.
Because his current live's parents he's been given a strong love of knowledge and getting the base of things. Why people think the way they do, why legends and myths change over the years, not just because oral traditions change every time they're said but why those mythos still change between adaptations after the written word had preserved them. Where the myths came from as humans tried to understand the world around them when the stories of the gods first started to be whispered about. He's incredibly intelligent, soaking up information like a sponge, and he's been enjoying doing the deep dive research into things, which is why he'd jumped at the chance to go to Norway for his Norse research instead of ever question how his name ended up in a contest he hadn't entered in the first place.
Which also shows easily, that he can be impulsive. If he thinks that it's worth it, he'll jump without looking to see if the fall is safe, if there's something below to catch him, or if he's going to end up hurt. This isn't just in the research aspect of his life, though, and it's a trait that has carried over from his first life. After finding Sigríðr dead the second time, there was no thought when he went after Loki, only impulse and emotion driving him. He didn't think about going at it smart, and because he was so ruled by impulse and emotion, it had been his downfall. He was also impulsive at Hotel Fen, though for the most part there it had worked because it had lead him getting closer to Silje before they remembered who they were.
Because he was a battle companion with Thor, his battle training has stayed with his soul through his various lives. Like muscle memory, it never truly left him, so he's stayed a well trained fighter, but also a strategist. Letting him see situations and evaluate them. Victor himself hadn't realized this trait until Hotel Fen, because he thought he'd just been observant, having used it to spot different mentions of mythos and history among art, literature, and how people viewed the world. But it actually stems from his battle experience, being able to see the enemy and note all the things needed in order to bring them down without much problem or effort, taking the win while keeping the losses of his side at a minimum.
He's never been a wolf or dog person, preferring the company of cats instead. After Hotel Fen though, he's developed a minor case of lupophobia (fear of wolves). He's also become distrustful of those around him that he doesn't know, wondering if even though they're free of the Hotel that Fenris or one of his siblings will return to try and finish the job. This has also left him a little more possessive and protective over Silje, not liking when she's too far from him, and has left him with an emotional need to use her as a touchstone in some ways - constantly with his fingers laced with hers, or her tucked into his side, or a hand on her back. Nearly losing her, and remembering the lost of her in a few of his lives, has had him need to ensure that she's real, alive, and close. He's also currently experiencing nightmares as his memories try to settle themselves better and the last nine lives war with letting him see what's happened first.
Abilities:As a Norse God in his early life, he retains the following abilities to some degree:
>> Superhuman strength: Víðarr in his original life was one of the strongest Gods in Asgard, third only to Thor and Odin. While Victor doesn't retain nearly all that strength, he is a lot stronger than a normal man.
>> Enhanced weapon proficiency, especially sword and staff: Staff is his weapon of choices and the knowledge and expertise have stayed with him through his lives, regardless of his current incarnation's exposure to combat.
>> Minor Weather control: Thor had shared part of his powers for weather and lightning with Víðarr at one time, and an essence of that has always stayed with his soul, mostly hidden but the battle at Hotel Fen unlocked it to a point. He's still figuring out how to control it now.
>> Magic use by way of runes, though he's still remembering how to do this
>> Enhanced Healing, Norse Gods are not immortal but they are incredibly hard to kill partially because save for a few magical weapons their healing is incredibly fast, and also leaves him little to no worry regarding infection
Personal Effects:
>> his weapons:
→ Gungnir, the spear of Odin, which he'd recovered from Hotel Fen, that has been altered to magically collapse into a black pendant that he wears around his neck
→ Kjedebryter, runic dagger, that had been forged alongside Loki's chains - the only weapon that can break Loki's remaining chain and free him, but it has to be wielded by Fenris to work
>> his modernized but magical armor: black leather jacket, black leather pants, gray t-shirt beneath the jacket spelled with the Thurisaz rune to help with his strength and protection in any battle
>> his shoes, listed in prized possession, that have been upgraded to modern black leather boots.
>> His smartwatch and his phone
Prized Possession: His prized possession are his shoes - Víðarr's shoes. Sigríðr, in his first life after she'd become a Valkyrie, had them crafted for him by one of the dwarves that did all the crafting for the Norse gods. They're imbued with magic that allows him to be incredibly sturdy on his feet and aids in his strength. They were recovered from Hotel Fen by Victor so he has them in his possession.
